Buffalo Bill Cody

Today we traveled to Golden, Colorado. We tried to tour the Coors plant but they are not doing tours at this time. A little googlefu and we found out Buffalo Bill Cody was buried here and has a museum. It was a great museum and we'll worth the trip.

Did you know he lived in Rochester, NY and had his kids there?

Glenwood Springs, Colorado

We had to stop for the night and found a cheap hotel in a town called Glenwood Springs. We found out that Doc Holliday was buried in town so we set out to find the grave.

Hiking up a big muddy hill in the pouring rain didn't stop is and we found not his grave but a memorial and plaque. It was a pretty neat find.

The John Brown Highway Ride

The John Brown highway connects Utah and Colorado and is a shortcut rather than taking the highway.

The trip started out great with a shot of Castle Rock. After getting higher elevation we ran into snow then the slickest mud I've ever seen. Down the cliff into Gateway was a wild muddy ride down switchbacks until the last picture you see is the Jeep as a muddy mess breaking through the pass. We may have been the last ones through the pass before it was snowed in for the year.

Red Cliffs Lodge

We left Moab today and stopped at the Red Cliffs Lodge that has a museum of all the movies and commercials filmed in the area. Most of John Wayne's westerns were filmed right in that valley. Here's a pic of John Wayne with a mustache.

Don't see this in NY

After we got off the John brown Highway we came across this is the middle of the road. A Mule!

Shafers Switchbacks

Right above the Jeep and Trailer on the cliff face is the switchbacks that take you from where we are parked 2000 ft up to the top of the cliff.

Indian Carvings

On the way to the trail this morning we passed a sign that said Indian Carvings. We stopped at the second sign and found the first picture of the bear. We then turned around and went to the rest.

Potash Road

Here's the only pic of us together in Moab. I had to set the timer quick and run to get in the picture.

Canyonlands National Park

After our climb from the valley floor to almost the top, 2000 ft.

Chicken Corners Trail

Off of the Chicken Corners Trail we saw a cave half way up the stone wall. I climbed up and took this picture looking out across the desert.

Top of Hurrah Pass

Hurrah Pass was an easy trail that that was simply terrifying to drive. Mostly a single lane rutted dirt road with blind corners and 1000+ ft drop offs on one side with no guard rails.

How small we are out here

Can you spot my Jeep?

Birthing Rock

Petroglyphics on the Hurrah Pass Trail

Desert Flowers and Big Rocks

The desert where we went yesterday actually had grass and flowers which we hadn't seen.

Picture Frame Arch

The toughest one yet

We couldn't find a name for this hill but it was the toughest we had to climb.

Hole in the Rock

A complete house and later a diner carved out of a stone face.

Another beautiful Moab morning

Wide Open Spaces

Boulders bigger than my Jeep

Sent from my iPad

Intimidation

Solid slippery rock face straight up but we made it!

Moab 3D Trail

This looks easy but as you can hear in the video it was pretty scary. It was super steep and made of slick rock.
