Our score

Massi's was closing out their plants for the year so we ended up with over $700 worth of plants for under $100 dollars.

I've been digging holes all day :(

The Dining Room

We've been working hard the last week painting and assembling the dining room. We will be changing the light out this week and it should be finished. One down, many to go.

Ready for Halloween

Emily found her costume today.

Look what I found...

Under 3 layers of paint. I put a new thermostat in yesterday and found the original walnut trim underneath. So I decided to strip this board since I was going to replace it with wood and boom, original walnut trim.

I think we will be stripping some more paint off to see what we can uncover.

Now this is a unique house.

Took a walk around the neighborhood and found this house.

Safety First

Tim would be proud (he helped me pick it out).

Sad News

I don't know if anyone has seen it but Steuben glass is going out of business before the end of the year. Corning sold it off a few years ago and unfortunately the new company could not make it profitable. I am disappointed that Corning did not step up and keep it as Steuben glass was known everywhere.

Sometimes my education pays off

So now that the weather is cooling back down we are planning on our front garden bed project at the end of the driveway. We need something that shows the house number since you can't see the house from the road and no one can find it.

I decided to design up a Mid Century house number that would look good in Beck's new flower bed.

So what do you think? We are not set on colors yet but I like the design.

The new front door

We made it to Restore South in Buffalo and found our new front door. We have a 1980's country door on the house and wanted to go a bit more retro.

Couldn't pass up this one when we found it between the great glass up top and the two tone brass/chrome doorknob with the atomic starburst handle.

We are planning on having the Amish hang it for us. It's the right size but it needs the hinges moved on the frame as well as the door striker.

Now, what color to paint it!

Thrifting finds

We cleaned out all the thrift shops in Buffalo this weekend and came up with this great stuff.

All of the vases but the tall Chinese one (a gift from our parents) came from the thrift shops. The set of high ball glasses in the tray and the round blue vase were a find in an antique shop on the way home.

The best find was the white Formica end table with it's Danish brass capped legs. It's stamped Jun 12, 1959 on the bottom and it's in great shape.

Here's two more finds

Both came from Restore's. A starburst Welby clock and a Pyrex atomic coffee burner set to go with the new dishes.

New bookcases and desk

We covered most of the NE this weekend picking up this great mid century desk and teak bookcases. Our travels took us to Irondeqouit, NY and Lock Haven, PA.

We picked up a couple of other pieces that we'll put up when we get them arranged.

Everybody hears the voices right?

So on may way home tonight to pick up Emily from school the voices said I had to go to the Restore Thrift Store. I was like no voice, I'm already late picking up Emily. Then when I was about to make the turn a strange force made me go straight which took me to the store.

Inside I browsed around until I turned a corner and bam, an original Taylorstone Cathay 7 piece dish set for $10. The epitome of mid century dishes.

It's turning into a sickness now.

A great vintage cabinet

Weekend project

Today's vintage haul

Today's theme was brass. We ended up with 20 pieces of brass animals, a great vintage globe and a retrotastic Kenmore sewing machine in a perfect 60's cabinet.
