Goodbye Mexico

It was an interesting trip for sure but glad to be home.

Mexas

That is not misspelled, that it was McAllen, TX. I came down to Texas
to party in some great country bars, see some giant belt buckles and
see what Texas was all about.

Instead what I found was a nearly 90% population of Mexicans, more
Spanish spoken than english and lots of Taco stands! Maybe someday
I'll get to visit Texas.....

Woodlands

Went to a cool restaurant yesterday with lots of dead animals on the
walls.

Home sweet home

Texas is starting to feel like home now. Just look forward to seeing
this sign everyday. Time to get back home.

Were lost!

We got tired of sitting in traffic and took a side road around. Now
were lost in the backstreets of Reynosa.

Ugh stuck in traffic

It takes at least an hour every night to get through traffic and clear
customs. I couldn't imagine doing this everyday.

And this

We did see some sugarcane and some real Texas longhorn cattle.

Lots of nothing

Did I mention that Texas is flat. On our drive for 4 hours 90% of it
looked like this.

Leaving the ship

Here she is in all her glory, what a great museum they have here. We
spent a solid 4 hours aboard even tho it rained today.

Great pic from the bridge

This is looking off the front of the carrier to downtown Corpus Christi.

Rest of the planes

There was a F-4 Phantom and some other planes. There was a plane from
the USS Oriskany which was named after a town in NY where Indians and
Loyalists fought the British during the Revolutionary war. There was
also a E3D bomber that could launch from a carrier. The soldiers
called it all three dead since there was no ejection seats so the 3
men that flew it always went down with the plane.

The Flight Deck

The flight deck had numerous planes on it but these were my favorites
even though they could not launch from a carrier of this size. That's
a Navy Blue Angels F/A-18 Hornet on the left and a F-14 Tomcat on the
right.

The Bridge

The tour guide told us that the Kamikaze flew into the bridge. The
unfortunate part was that 7 pilots were hanging out in the bridge
instead of staying in their planes and lost their lives along with 43
other men.

Visited the USS Lexington

This carrier logged the most miles in history of carriers. It was hit
by a Kamikaze in WW2 and left harbor just 2 days before Pearl Harbor
as it was stationed there. The next few pictures was our tour of the
carrier. It was incredible!

View from my room

Stayed in downtown overlooking the bay in Corpus Christi.

Live Music

I love Texas, we going from here where they are playing classic rock
to two country western bars with live music tonight. Lots more to do
here in Corpus Christi.

Corpus Christi, TX

We decided to ditch South Padre and ended up driving 4 hours up here.
Lots to do tomorrow.

The biggest hill in Texas

That I've seen so far....

South Padre Island

It's only about an our from where I'm staying so we went today.

McAllen Bulldogs

Went to see a local high school football game tonight. Their football
stadium is bigger than most colleges.

El Fogon

But the ambiance was even better! It's a shack on the side of the road
with long benches you stand and eat at. There is no electricity and
the drinks are just thrown in a pit of water with huge ice blocks.
Your choice of condiments are hot, hotter, and nuclear and have been
sitting out on the benches all day getting filled with dust or as my
traveling companions say extra flavor!

El Fogon

The tacos were great!

La Pampa Argentinean Steakhouse

$70 dollars a plate but one of the best tenderloin steaks I've ever
had. Cooked to rare on these grates then sliced at the table and you
cook to your specifications on cast iron plates.

What's funnier?

The crazy Ford Kaa in the front or the guy in the background moving
half of his dinette set on his bicycle. Mexico is entertaining at least.

Lunch at Taco Ducks

Had my 4 tacos today, not sure what was in it but it was tasty.

Mexican John Deere

It's 1 1/2 horsepower.

Headed to Texas

Yee ha!
